Most photo folders are not tidy. One picture is a HEIC from an iPhone, another is a WebP saved from a website, a third is an AVIF from a newer camera app, and a few are plain PNG or JPG. The EzyIMG GIF Maker lets you drop all of them in together and builds a single animated GIF, so you do not have to convert everything to one format first. There is one catch with a few of these formats, and it is easy to handle once you know it.

Which Image Formats the GIF Maker Accepts

The upload area accepts PNG, JPG, WebP, GIF, BMP, AVIF and HEIC files, and you can mix them in the same batch. That makes it a practical way to make a GIF from whatever you actually have, whether the images came from a phone, a screenshot tool, a design app or a download.

Behind the scenes, each picture is first drawn onto a canvas and saved as a PNG frame, and then the frames are combined into the GIF. That detail matters, because it means the format has to be something your browser can open and display.

Why Some Formats Work Everywhere and Others Do Not

Because your browser does the decoding, a format works only if the browser understands it. PNG, JPG, GIF and BMP work everywhere. WebP and AVIF work in current versions of the major browsers. HEIC is different: it is the default photo format on iPhones, but most non-Apple browsers cannot display it, while Safari on Apple devices usually can.

  • PNG, JPG, GIF, BMP: reliable in any modern browser.
  • WebP and AVIF: reliable in up-to-date Chrome, Edge, Firefox and Safari.
  • HEIC: usually fine in Safari on Mac and iPhone, often not in other browsers.

If a picture does not appear as a thumbnail after you add it, the browser could not read it. The fix is simple: convert that one file first and add it again.

How to Convert a HEIC File Before Adding It

If you are not using Safari and a HEIC photo will not load, convert it to JPG. EzyIMG has a free converter for exactly this, explained in how to convert HEIC to JPG. Convert only the files that fail, keep the rest as they are, and drop everything into the GIF Maker together.

If your photos come from an iPhone Live Photo rather than a still, there is a separate method in turning iPhone Live Photos into GIFs.

Build the GIF Step by Step

  1. Open the GIF Maker and add at least two images. You can drag them in or browse, and mixed formats are fine.
  2. Look at the numbered thumbnails. The numbers show the playback order, which follows the order you added the files.
  3. Remove any picture that is out of place and add it again later in the right position.
  4. Set the frame rate. The default of 10 FPS suits most animations, and the range goes from 1 to 50.
  5. Set the width in pixels. The default is 480, and the height adjusts automatically to keep proportions.
  6. Choose how many times it loops: forever, once, twice or three times.
  7. Press Create GIF and download the finished file.

Tips for a Clean Result From Mixed Sources

  • Use pictures with the same orientation and a similar shape, so the frames line up when they play.
  • If one source is much larger than the others, crop or resize it first so no frame looks stretched.
  • Name or number files in the order you want them so adding them in sequence is easy.
  • Keep the number of frames reasonable. Every extra image increases the file size.
  • For a slideshow feel use 1 to 2 FPS, and for a smooth animation use 8 to 12 FPS. The frame rate guide explains the choice.

When to Pick a Different Format for the Result

The GIF Maker always outputs a standard animated GIF, which works almost everywhere but is limited to 256 colors per frame. For photos with smooth gradients, that can show up as visible banding, as explained in why a GIF looks blurry or banded. If you only need motion for a website and not a GIF specifically, GIF vs WebP compares the options.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I mix HEIC, WebP and PNG files in one GIF?

Yes. The GIF Maker accepts PNG, JPG, WebP, GIF, BMP, AVIF and HEIC in the same batch, as long as your browser can open each file.

Why does my HEIC photo not show up?

Many browsers cannot display HEIC. Safari on Apple devices usually can. If yours cannot, convert that photo to JPG first and add it again.

What is the order of the frames?

The frames follow the order in which you added the files, and the thumbnails are numbered to show it. Remove and re-add a picture to change its position.

How many images do I need?

At least two. There is no fixed maximum, but more frames make a larger file, so keep the count reasonable for the place you will use the GIF.

Is the final file always a GIF?

Yes. Whatever formats you add, the output is a standard animated GIF.
