The YouTube tab sends the video URL you paste, never a file, to an EzyIMG API route, which looks up the video ID and returns links to YouTube's own thumbnail images at every resolution YouTube publishes, up to the 1280×720 maxresdefault when it exists. Downloading a thumbnail routes through a small image-proxy endpoint so the browser can save it directly, since YouTube's image CDN blocks plain cross-origin downloads.
The Local Video/GIF tab works completely differently and never touches a server: it loads your file into a hidden video element, lets you scrub to any timestamp or step through frame-by-frame, then draws whatever is currently on screen onto a canvas and exports that as a JPEG. That's useful for pulling a clean thumbnail out of your own footage or a highlight frame from a longer recording, rather than relying on whichever frame YouTube happened to pick.
